Misfortunate events?

Since I arrived in college, I had always wished that there be more hours in a day. The previous few days were one of the worst days of my college.

So, it all starts over the fall break. I had to stay here because it was pointless going to New Jersey: Spending about 8 hours in travel.  Before the fall break, I decided that I would do all my homework in these 3 days because I wanted a chilled out week. But, I didn’t even touch my books in those 3 days.

So, I decided to stay. I went out for a movie with my friends. My first movie in college: “Gravity”. The movie turned out to be not so good and I literally slept through it. Then, later at night I was supposed to go over to my friends place off campus. I was all ready, took a shower, changed up and went to squires at about 9.30 with a couple of my friends only to find that there were no more buses going to that place. We missed the previous bus by like 2 minutes. DAMN!

Next : I’ve got my chem lab on Tuesday at 8. So, I started doing my lab the previous day at like 8. I was up till like 5 am; completing my lab reports and doing my prelabs. I woke up at like 7.50am and I didn’t make it in time for the lab. Basically, my previous nights work had gone to nothing. Those of you who are in chem lab know what I’m talking about. The last, I got a 2/6 in my vector geometry quiz. The worst score possible.

- Probably a nerdy post; but screw it!

An Introduction sounds good

So, My name’s Rahul Mantri, I’m 17 years old and I’m from India. Gosh! It seems like the most boring sentence to type or hear about ever. I have literally heard this about a million times from different people since college started. But I don’t know why, every time I hear it, I always find it fun to learn about different people, talking to different people, hanging out with different people. I know its pretty weird, but that is just who I am.

I love to socialize, to meet new people, blah blah blah! I just find it fun how people from different places, different backgrounds and more actually share the same principles of life.  And, I’m a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo.  You would’ve guessed from my previous posts that I’m a big fan of soccer. Just one thing folks, its Football.. not “soccer”. Simple logic man, it’s a ball and you’re supposed to kick it all around with your foot”. I just always get paranoid when people call it soccer.

Moving on, being a typical boy, I love to play sports; I guess that’s just my nature: being competitive. I love to learn new stuff. Currently I’m researching about how do I earn quick money by investing in something because I really want to have a great summer. I want to have my first American summer, something like 3 months of relaxation on the beach or something. Everyday, waking up to see the clear water in front of your eyes would be amazing.

Currently, my only dream is to get into the MIT for graduate school. That’s like my dream school. I would literally do anything possible to go there. I’m kind of working hard on it right now as well.

I guess that’s about it. Hope to learn something more about you people sometime. Have a good weekend!

The DANA Cup, Sorry for another soccer story!

It was the finals of the Danish Soccer tournament, The Dana Cup. A penalty shootout was to decide the verdict. We were trailing by a goal.  My coach called me and said, “This is all you have been trained for.”  I was nervous, but I told myself, “its now or never.”  I got myself together, looked at my teammates who had their hopes pinned on me, and took the shot. I failed to score. We lost the title. My world fell apart.

This was one of the most important experiences of my life. I faced failure, criticism. Failure helped me grow. I worked harder. My father played a very important role in this, thanks to his passion for soccer. He explained to me on how it was important for me to take a lesson from my mistakes and perform better in the coming games.

He helped me train. Being a typical kid, I wasn't too fond of doing my push-ups or sit-ups - I just wanted to play. We had a soccer goalpost in the backyard of our house. When he came home after work, we used to head towards the goalpost to train. He used to set a specific target for me to kick the ball in the goal and wouldn’t let me move on to the next hurdle unless I achieved that target. He amplified my knowledge on the technicality of the game. The advice, support, and love my dad provided me with all through my life are the ultimate reasons of where I am today.

Playing soccer locally, nationally and internationally has taught me how important it is for everyone to do their bit when working as a team.
It taught me how strategic planning is beneficial and that the game is not just about dribbling, passing and shooting, it goes much further.
